Neilson in Beacon Hill: Yo-Yodyne.com

Goodness, Tens. A lot of y'all have blogs. The first batch has gone up on the blogroll over yonder (that means "to the right"), with more blogs and a whole load of twitters coming tonight or tomorrow. Keep checking back for more!

Also, as promised, folks who send some sort of description of their blog will get (eventually) written up here. And right now that honor goes to Neilson of the Beacon Hill Tens. [I really think Seattle has some amazing neighborhood suburb names. My hands-down favorite? Snohomish. -ed]

If you have a strong long-term memory, you might remember Neilson as one of the two Twitter I Love You Chunk-ers from two nights ago. His twittering handle is wheelson (I'm not clear on proper usage of the "@" for twitter IDs - should that be "@wheeldon"?), and his blog is called Yo-Yodyne.com. Although he doesn't explain what the heck the title means, Neilson writes:
I've had a blog in some form for about 7 years. The ravages of time have caused many of my older posts to fade into the aether. During that time I've been trying to think of a way to focus my blog posts. You'd think ten years would be long enough but I'm a power procrastinator. I do think I'm starting to narrow in on things a bit though. With Twitter home to my more disposable ramblings I feel like I can use my blog for articles that are more focused. Look for topics to center around photography, web based communication tools and the art of procrastinating.
Bonus points for spelling "aether" like that. Rawr!

Not to be all correctin' on the editor, but Snohomish is a Seattle neighborhood in the exact same way that Plymouth is a Boston neighborhood.

Point taken! I totally don't know the area. Would it be fair to call it a suburb? A "town of the greater Seattle area"?

Calling Snohomish a Seattle suburb would be accurate.

My guess is that Yo-Yodyne.com is a reference to the (awesome) film "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension"

Google has a pretty good listing of the neighborhoods, try http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=98103 and scroll around.

Sweet!

When referring to the toy, yo-yo is written with the hyphen. I like yo-yos, Pinchon books (the original YoYodyne reference) and Buckaroo Banzai but I needed a domain name that wasn't already taken. Adding the hyphen did the trick.

The @ symbol is twitter speak for a reply, sort of shorthand I guess you could call it. However Twitter users have taken to using it when referencing a Twitter handle as a way of indicating, "this is a link to a twitter page/user". So you might use it like, "Jaime's Twitter user name is jaimealyse," and then follow it up with, "I found a sweet bit of information on @jaimealyse. However nobody's writing a rule book so it's all good.

Can't wait to read about other Tens on here as well as browse through your blogs.

Duh. I've read The Crying of Lot 49, and like it a lot. I feel like I've failed the hot British man who taught my "What Was Postmodern Literature" class in college.

Hey, since smart folk abound here... I have a question I'd love an answer to.

I always wondered if maybe "Snohomish" is really just a synthesis of "Snoqualmie" and "Skykomish" ... since those are actual tribes. I didn't think "Snohomish" meant anything really...

Hi baby babes!

Yay! Neilson's awesome and I'm not just saying that since I dragged him along to help me with the I love you Chunk (Twitter edition).
